# How to securely generate EOS key pairs offline

> This step-by-step tutorial guides you through the process of installing eoskey app and generating key pairs.

**Key pairs should always be generated with a trustworthy offline-tool to prevent fraud**

In this guide, we use the trusted app eoskey app.

We open this [Github](https://github.com/eoscafe/eoskeyio/releases/tag/1.0.0) website, scroll down and choose our operating system to download the file.

After the download **we disconnect from the internet** and unpack the ZIP-file. Now we click on the icon below to open the app:

As soon as the app opens, we choose **Generate and Validate Keys** in the main menu on the left.

A few options appear on the right side. We need: Generate Keys. But before we click on the blue button, we must make sure that we are **disconnected** from the internet.

After verifying that we are offline, we click **Generate** (right under Generate Keys) and the app creates a Public Key and a Private Key:

You can generate unlimited key pairs with the eoskey app.
